Frequently Asked Questions

Are you also a birth doula? What is the difference?

I am not a birth doula. I do know of some great ones in town that I can refer you to if you are looking for one! Highly recommend. A birth doula supports a mother emotionally and physically during her birth, a postpartum doula provides support after the baby is born and focuses on family adjustment.

What if our baby arrives early or late?

My booking is set up to reserve my services for one week at a time. My services can be booked two weeks in advance, for one week at a time (minimum). Reserving your week(s) by booking with me helps me reserve my time to support you and your family. Feel free to schedule whatever weeks you feel will be most helpful to your family. I personally reserved a month for my postpartum care because I knew our baby would likely not be born on their exact due date. If the baby arrives early, my services will help you successfully adjust to your new life with your baby. If the baby arrives after their due date, we can take advantage of the time you have booked to prepare your home, freezer, bedside station, and maybe sneak in a last minute date! I can also provide my services the day(s) you are giving birth by preparing the home for your arrival, delivering hospital/birthing center drop offs, and older sibling care to give your other support members a break during this time.

Where are your services provided?

I am accepting clients located in the following areas: Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Lake Ann, Interlochen, Grawn, Kingsley, Acme, and Williamsburg.

What if there is a family emergency or you are unable to support us the week we booked due to illness etc ?

If there is an unforeseen family emergency that occurs in the clients family and my services are no longer required, you will receive a 50% refund of your payment. If I am unable to provide my services the week(s) I am scheduled to support your family due to an unforseen family emergency or illness, I will: First, do my best to provide a replacement for my services. And lastly, if I were unable to find a replacement caretaker for your family for the week, I will refund 100% of your payment for the week.

How does scheduling work? Are you a night doula?

I am not a night doula, I currently only provide day time care. My services can be booked for a minimum of one week at a time, two weeks (minimum) in advance. My working hours are Monday-Fridays from 9am-5pm. Each week day during the week you reserve, you’ll have the option of selecting the 4 hours you would like me to support your family in whatever way that day.

What types of pets can you care for?

I am familiar with caring for cats, friendly small/medium sized dogs, and smaller animals. If you have another pet you and are unsure if I would be able to care for it, feel free to send me a message and we can discuss!

Do you have any doula specific certifications?

Although I do have a degree in/ have taken infant development specific courses, I do not have specific doula certifications. Doulas are a non-regulated industry and therefore do not need to be certified. I also believe that the specific services I provide as a doula that make my household support unique are not all areas that necessarily need a certificate (cleaning, childcare, cooking etc.)
